Don’t order it just yet …

If you are like me you too have been waiting to order your meta materials invisibility cloak from a retailer near you, if you’re like me you will likely order yours online. But before you sit all night out in front of Walmart waiting for the first shipment, the researchers responsible for being “a step closer to developing materials that could render people and objects invisible” are a long way off from actually developing a real invisibility cloak.

Mick the Dog

A few of you might have noticed the big-headed, 40 pound, wanna-be lap-dog that we now own. His name is Mick and he is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and why he was dropped off at the pound is still a mystery to my wife and I.

He is smart, house trained, good with kids – both of ours have not been eaten – is friendly with both dogs and cats, the breed itself is relatively healthy with very few genetic defects like some of the other breeds, although due to the large size of his head his breed does tend to overheat, and due to their stocky build they breed cannot swim – lucky for us Mick is deathly afraid of the cabin pond.

He does have his faults; he does suffer from separation anxiety and can get a little over zealous when playing with other dogs, but as a whole those “faults” are minor if anything, unless you ask my nieces Yorkie. As my wife and I started doing some research — alright I did the research my wife mostly was checking to make sure he wasn’t going to eat us — on the Staffordshire Bull Terrier we discovered that this breed has been around from the 17th century they were believed to be a cross between a mastiff and a fighting bulldog, while this dog gets mistakenly lumped in with the bully breed class of dog, they are known today more as great, loyal family pets then fighting dog and one of only two breeds recognized by the UK Kennel Club as “totally reliable” around children.

So in conclusion when you are looking for dog for your family, why not check out a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, don’t let their looks scare you off. One last thing please get your dog from either a registered breeder, breed specific rescue organization or from an organization like the SPCA.
